It Takes A Lot To Know A Man
“That song is about so many things, all at the same time. As it was popping into my head, there wasn’t one scenario. I might have started off with. one particular line may have been my relationship with one particular individual and immediately it jumped to humanity and the things that men have done to women in the world, especially through religions – the oppression over the centuries. That would then jump to what human beings have done to other human beings and that would jump back to what I had done to that one individual human being and then what I thought that human being did to me. It was one of those spaces where I thought, “we are mad, like we’re nutbags, the lot of us.” And it became a little but funny but also very sad.”Damien Rice (1171)
